would like to stress on the Social aspect of the Sustainable Development, although there is no least among the three. Being a part in the field of education, it is very sad to know that education in the Philippines is still moving backward, instead of moving ahead. In fact we are still left behind among the countries in Asia, what more if it is among the countries worldwide? In the video shown, the statistics showed a very poor number of Filipinos who can earn a degree and worst, even in surviving the elementary level. What will happen to these future hope of our land? And since this is a chain reaction, what will happen to our land? Our Mother Earth? Who will protect her in the next few years? Even if education is for free both in the elementary and in the secondary schools in the Philippine Public Education, there are still many children who do not go to school. Just look everywhere, they are there present in any part of the society, working at the very young age or begging! But it's not only that, they can be an access to gambling and illegal drugs since there are SOMEBODY who holds them in the neck. This really makes me feel sad, pity, and hurt or even mad! Why? They are supposed to be in school. They have the right to be educated and this is their right! This is a reality that Filipinos can not escape to think of on how to resolve. It has been a long problem that has been happening. We must do everything to resolve this. In fact our government and other sectors, both in the public and private had done many things to help lessen if not to diminish this, like the many scholarships being offered. Let us just be positive in everything. Someday, somehow, there will be no childeren who are not in school - Education For All as EFA stands for. All children will be functionally literate. Let us join hands together. We can do this! It is matter of positive attitude! God bless us all!
Elena's Reflections and Insights on Our Lessons
with Ma'am Ava ( EDUC. 213N )
Module 1 Introduction to Educational Statistics
Reflecting on what Ma'am Ava is explaining, I have thought of how significant Statistics was. Wherever and whatever we do, there is statistics. I have never thought of it before, there was noone who told its importance too, most especially that I am a major of English. This is really a realization to me. It is not only counting 1-10 but how we count the how we help preserve our natural resources because in applying statistics, we will determine the things we do for our Mother Earth- those trash we dispose and the things we consume today, this was stressed importantly by our Professor, Ma'am Ava. As an effect, we experience nowadays this global warming and this is the result of our negligence. Can we find the statistics on what percentage do we use the three (3) Rs in preserving our Mother Earth? It is not yet too late to do someting about this. This is for the next generation, isn't it?
Module 2 Variables: Subject Matter of Statistics and Research
In whatever we study or tackle, I have realized that we should see and glimpse on its importance, not just in education but its global effect. Integrating Statistics in whatever field brings the effect not just today but to the next, next generation. More specifically on the Research endeavor, it is calculating the vaue/values or the significance of your study or research. One variable is a cognate of the other variable. That is why I have thought of the interrelatedness of one thing to the other.
Module 3 Integration of Innovation in Statistics
Module 3 Integration of Innovation in Statistics
At the start, when Ma'am Ava discussed on the E-Portfolio, everybody was so eager, but when there were some errors occurred on how to sign up many clamored about this. Everybody has a reason and on my side, I got reasons to think of too although I am ready to go with the innovations most specially at this generation/stage where students are more capable of doing so many things in the computer than the teachers. Ma'am Ava tried to discussed the importace of E-Portfolio and concluded how VIRGIN most of us in terms of technology-the computer, we all just laughed because this was really a fact. I never thought of how important this was, not until I have seen the work of my classmates, their works were so interesting, but all I need is just a time to make a BLOG, since there was no internet connection in my station plus the many works in the school, I got many hindrances really but I am making it now, hehehehe. I have found many interesting things to learn specially in integrating statistics in Educational Sustainability and Development, and its relevance to preserve the Mother Earth.
Module 4 Measure of Central Location
Module 4 Measure of Central Location
Besides the knowledge I acquired on measure of central tendency, this module by the inputs given to us by Prof Ava, I was able to manipulate Microsoft Excel in solving problems on measures of central tendency. She taught us to be more literate in terms of using the technology around us. I realized that the technology available around us offers lot of things we can use to be more efficient and more effective in teaching our students and in doing what we do to the fullest. It just passed by in my mind, and I wonder if up to this time, how many teachers out of all the teachers here in the Philippines, still do not know how to use computer. Hmmm...Statistically thinking, I supposed more than fifty percent still do not utilize the benefits of technology in their classes (This is only my own opinion, walang kokontra ha).
Module 5 Measures of Variation
Module 5 Measures of Variation
Patience and determination are the values that I acquired from this module. I learned how to take time and make time for my studies after our professor discussed to us the measures of variation. It was a wakeup call to me when we were given lot of equations and concepts to study. I thought it was already a time for me to get serious in my studies and to be focus on what I am doing (palaging ningas kugon eh). In our lesson, I realized also that each one of us is unique with distinct characteristics and different talents and abilities. So, keep doing good things guys. We are excellent in each specialization we chose.
Module 6 Measures of Correlation
We discussed the degree of relationship of one variable with another variable. In our discussion with Prof Ava, I got an idea that there are things which are directly related to the other while the relationship of other things to each other is somewhat negligible. From my own point of view, either you are directly or you do not have any relationship to other people, you still relate to them in any way. Like you and someone you do not know who live under the same sun and moon in this irreplaceable planet. So, why fight and argue? Make friends guys, for a person who is a stranger to you will be related to you after you have given your sweet smile!
Module 7 The Normal Probability Distribution
From this module, I was able to learn the characteristics of the normal curve. I learned also that the median is always at the center of the plotted data. I learned as that even though we have a normal life, problems and challenges are inevitable. The skewness of the curve in the distribution is similar to the imperfections in our live. Nevertheless, we still have hope for in the words ABNORMAL and IMPERFECT; the words NORMAL and PERFECT are present respectively. Meaning, even though we have an abnormal or imperfect lives, we can still make our lives beautiful and worth living for the way we like our lives to be.
Module 8 Sampling Theories and Hypothesis Testing
To get the correct result/s in you research study, you should start doing the right thing starting from selecting a sample. This is the first thing I learned form this module. Second, the smaller the sample size, the greater is the probability of committing errors in a study. Lastly, errors are inevitable in any study even if we perfectly followed the procedure. But, these errors can be reduced if we will increase the number of samples we are studying, by conducting the study honestly and appropriately, and by having no biases in interpreting the results of the study. In short we are not perfect, but we can still make great things and we can be excellent in whatever we do. Form great quotations and I quote: “Nobody is perfect, but we can do great.”
Module 9 The T-Test, Z-Test, and Chi-Square Excel
Module 10 Analysis of Variance
Module 11 Linear and Multiple Regression Analysis
Module 12 Computer Statistical Applications
In this technology era, the work of an individual, specifically in the field of research became lighter and deloaded. Why? Beacuse absolutely, computer is very trendy. The data could be interpreted so easily. In this lesson with Prof Ava I have realized more the essence of the computer age, how it will help someone in just a click. Everything will be there to be interpreted as long as you know how to follow the processes or the commands. Thank you to you Ma'am Ava, because of integrating these things to us, we are two steps ready to have our thesis writing. Moreoever, we should not understimate the uses of a computer. Although most of us found it too hard since there were some who do not have a laptop and neither had a huge background in computer, everybody tried his best to cope with our lessons. This is amazing to have an enthusiasm to learn more. Yes. we did it!

What is an E-Portfolio and its Objectives for creating this?
An E-Portfolio also known as the Electronic Portfolio is created purposively to assess and evaluate or showcase the professional progress and development of the students in Education 213 (Advanced Educational Statistics) and his awareness or advancement in the development of Information Communication and Technology as it is integrated in the subject particularly. This highlights integration of Statistics in Education for Sustainable Development, and Innovations in Technology. This blog showcases huge emphasis on the collection of data documented to serve as evidence on the learning acquired by a student in the subject. Moreover, it also provides written reactions and/or reflections about the modular lessons learned in Advanced Educational Statistics. |
